Window Treatments for a Historical Site

Earlier this year, Drapery Industries was awarded a public bid project to design, manufacture and install window treatments for the Historical Canfield Casino restoration project in Saratoga Springs. The City of Saratoga Springs requested that the design, selection of materials and manufacturing process should be representative of the appropriate period in which the Canfield Casino was constructed. Renderings and photos were provided to assist in this process.

The scope of work included large decorative valances made from deep rich colored demask velours, bullion fringe, and tassels. Period appropriate accent sheers were draped behind the valances and tied back with vintage tiebacks which we were able to salvage and reconstruct from the original treatments. Drapery Industries strongly recommended the addition of translucent roller shades to assist in protection of room furnishings from prolonged sun exposure.

The project was a tremendous success, and Saratoga Springs City Engineer, PE commented as follows.

“David – I just wanted to say how nice the window treatments look. We are thrilled with the service you have provided. Thank you for working so hard to make everything perfect! The draperies are beautiful! Thank you very much for all your extra effort to make this possible!”

Brief History

“The Canfield Casino is one of Saratoga Springs’ most talked about and recognizable landmarks. The Casino, originally dubbed the Saratoga Club House, was built by John Morrissey in 1870 as part of Congress Hall, which was a large resort hotel that contributed to giving Saratoga Springs its fame as the Spa City. The Casino has had a long and prominent history in the city, with illegal gambling, rumors of paranormal activity, and most recently it has become one of the best wedding venues in Saratoga.”
