Skylight Shades

Skylights can be a beautiful and functional architectural feature, opening an interior space to the outside and bringing natural daylight into buildings. That said, the light they bring in needs to be properly managed with expertly crafted skylight shades to ensure that brightness and glare are mitigated, and that heat gain and loss are regulated throughout the changing seasons.

Fixed Panel vs Retractable Tension System

An effective way to address these challenges is to install a fabric shading system, either a fixed panel or retractable tension shading system. Fixed panels have the benefit of being relatively low cost and low maintenance. The downside is that they are permanently in place, negating the ability to regulate light and temperature levels as the exterior environment changes day-to-day and season-to-season. Alternatively, a retractable tension shading system can be installed. While these systems are more costly than fixed panels, they offer the ability to better regulate view-through, interior lighting and temperature.
